Niger was foaled in 1869 in England where he was considered a Hackney Horse. He was exported in 1879 to France, where he was considered a Trotteur Francais. His pedigree traces via the Norfolk Phenomenon multiple times to Old Shales, a foundation stallion of the Hackney.
